For anyone who enjoys the English Historical Fiction Authors’ blog as much as I do, this book was a no-brainer. This book is a compilation of past blog posts by authors such as Debra Brown, Nancy Bilyeau, Gillian Bagwell, M.M. Bennetts, Susanna Calkins, and many others, over 50 authors in total. There is simply no way to summarize this book, as its contents stretch from the Romans to the Victorians and everything in between. Where else can you get such fascinating snapshots of British history through such a large number of viewpoints? My favorites include: the story behind Anno Domini, William Wallace, Joan of Kent, Richard III vs. Henry VII, naughty or nice?, and England’s market crosses.
I recommend downloading this as the audio version (a satisfying 25 hours long), as it is long but engaging and is therefore perfect to help get you through any type of onerous house and/or yard work joyfully. If you love British history, there is something for everyone here.
