In my effort to review more books that are good for your body as well as your mind and soul, I read this delightful book on how to get started on daily meditation practice when you feel like a meditation flunky. And believe me, I’ve felt like a meditation flunky for quite some time!
This book is fantastic to get you over your fears, your excuses, and your aversion to…just sitting! It provides a simple 8-week blue print to build up your meditation “muscle” because, after all, like anything else, meditation takes discipline, dedication, and practice. Whether you’re afraid of pain, sitting dumbly in silence, or afraid of not doing it “right”, this book will help you overcome your personal obstacles.
More than simply for mental well being, this book explains how that all the crutches we use to make it through tough times (alcohol, food, online shopping) can be addressed with meditation. And this provides the encouragement and path forward to begin that journey. My favorite parts – it’s practical, unfussy, and common sense.
I found it delightful, inspiring, and most of all, a good way to lose the “I don’t have the tools, I don’t have the time, I don’t have the ability” excuses. If you’ve ever wanted to start meditating but weren’t sure how, starting here will set you up for success.
